Screaming Value: WR

There is no position more “offensive scheme dependent” than that  of wide receiver. If a team doesn’t pass the ball much (or effectively), then no matter how talented the player his fantasy value plummets. An average WR on a high powered offense is usually better than a good WR on an anemic offense.Which is why everyone is so interested in who will be the #1 WR in San Diego this year. There is the favorite, veteran pick in Malcom Floyd. Then there is the sexy pick in newly signed free agent Robert Meachem. Then there is the signing of the talented Eddie Royal. And then there is second year player Vincent Brown. Who do I like? I like Vincent Brown….an here is why.

First, Malcom Floyd could be very productive but he can’t stay healthy for more than two consecutive games and with his age (30), I don’t see this changing.

Second, Robert Meachem is a good deep threat but has suspect hands and not a great intermediate route runner. If he couldn’t emerge in the highest octane pass offense in the league while in New Orleans, will he be a stud in San Diego?

Third, although I am a big Eddie Royal fan, he is best suited for the slot and I suspect that is where he will stake his claim.

So, that leaves me with a real sleeper here but one who I think really emerges this year…Vincent Brown. Brown is currently the 53rd WR off the board in fresh drafts being taken around the 2nd pick in round 13. I think he has a legit shot at being the #1 WR in San Diego, which throws the ball a ton. So, he could easily blow up his current ADP. Brown does everything well and looked fantastic at times last year….especially against the Raiders when nobody else looked like they could play for the Chargers. He has excellent hand sand is a terrific route runner. He knows how to read defensive sets and find openings against zone and press coverage. He is not a physical freak, but has Greg Jennings size at 5’11″ and 184 pounds. Don’t sleep on Vincent Brown….he may be the best WR on this roster.
